To bring Brother Chiu to life, Richie made major sacrifices — including shaving his head for the role! Instead of enduring over five hours of hair and makeup, he boldly opted for a clean shave, letting director Soi Cheang personally wield the clippers. Richie joked on set, comparing his punkish mid-shave look to Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver, even mimicking the iconic line: “Are you talking to me?” before snapping a photo with the director for posterity.
This wasn’t his first time going bald — his last head-shaving experience was 30 years ago for the TV drama Once Upon a Time in China and the Thirteenth Aunt.
